If you are already starting to perform pretty well in the javelin and you want to increase your speed and explosive power, then it is time to invest in javelin spikes.

The design of the javelin spikes has spikes in the heels, the front, and additional ankle support.

The reason the javelin spikes are designed in this way is to help the athlete transition the speed and power from the runup into the javelin throw.

If you are ready to take your javelin performance to the next level, you should consider investing in the following spikes.

The javelin throwing shoes from Adidas have a good reputation for durability. Although these spikes aren’t really cheap, you should be able to invest in them and have them last for a few seasons.

In javelin, you will be putting the heel of the shoe to the test. So you will want to invest in a shoe where the heel provides the support and will resist wear and tear for as long as possible.

Additionally, you want to have confidence that the shoe will give you the support and traction so you can throw the javelin confidently.

The shoe is designed for right hand throwers, although left hand throwers will still see a benefit in wearing these spikes compared to wearing non-javelin spikes.

The price is slightly more. But it is worth considering if you have the budget.

Do you know what it takes to become an explosive javelin thrower?

April 12, 2019 by Editor

In all track and field events, the athlete needs to develop power. And they will develop power by improving the speed, strength, and explosiveness of their body’s conditioning.

When it comes to the javelin throw event, it isn’t any different. Athletes must be able to convert the speed and power developed on the runway and in their upper body to throw the javelin as far as possible.

There is one question that javelin throwers need to answer so they can perform better in the javelin event.

  • How can a javelin thrower increase their velocity?

How can a javelin thrower increase the velocity of their throw?

The athlete needs a strong and explosive movement to throw the javelin in the air.

If you think about the muscles that matter the most, the athlete needs to develop the explosive action of their muscles pulling from behind their body to the front where they will release the javelin.

Developing the speed of this motion from back to front, with the power via resistance weights and bands, can help to condition the power of the athlete for the javelin event. You can also use medicine balls to help develop your explosive power.

Wall balls (Overhead)

Get a medicine ball and throw it at the wall with as much explosive power as possible.

Throw a shot put

Alternatively, you can grab a shot put and aim to throw it as far as possible.

Tricep extensions

You can do this with the barbell or single dumbbells. Aim to develop explosive power in the 8-12 rep range.
